World Tap Dance Championship 2023: Celebrating a Legacy in Riesa, Germany
The dance world converged in the picturesque city of Riesa, Germany, for the World Tap Dance Championship 2023, a five-day extravaganza of rhythm, creativity, and camaraderie. Hosted in the iconic WT-Arena, this championship marked the culmination of 23 unforgettable years of tap dance excellence in Riesa.
Under the banner of the International Dance Organization (IDO), the World Tap Dance Championship 2023 brought together tap dancers from around the globe. The event showcased the unparalleled talent, dedication, and passion that define the tap dance community, as participants competed for top honors and accolades.
This championship was more than just a celebration of dance; it was a heartfelt tribute to Michael Wendt, the IDO honorary president, who has been a driving force behind this remarkable journey. The "Thank-you-Michael" event honored his unwavering commitment to tap dance and his role in fostering a warm and supportive community within the IDO.
Hana Svehlova, IDO Vice President, played a pivotal role in organizing the "Thank-you-Michael" event, together with Nancy Chippendale and Robert Planutis. Seamus, affectionately known as "the boss" of the ceremony, ensured that the evening was filled with gratitude and appreciation.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of a prestigious plaque to Michael Wendt by IDO President Prof.Dr. Velibor Srdic together with the Vice Presidents Bonny Dyer and Hana Svehlova. This gesture symbolized the deep respect and admiration that the IDO community holds for Michael's contributions to the world of tap dance.
The "Thank-you-Michael" event was not only a moment to reflect on the past but also to look ahead to the future. Michael Wendt expressed his commitment to bringing the IDO World Show Dance Championships back to the "Riesa-stage" in 2024, and hopefully in 2025.
In the coming days, video and photo highlights of the World Tap Dance Championship 2023 will be available on the event's official website. Furthermore, Michael Wendt is diligently working on a comprehensive book titled "History of the IDO World Tap Dance Championships 1991 – 2023," which will serve as a testament to the rich legacy of tap dance in Riesa.
The PDF link to this book will be shared with the public and all those interested in reliving the incredible moments of this journey.
With heartfelt gratitude, the organizers and participants look forward to the next chapter and the continued growth of tap dance on the a new stage in beautiful Prague, Czechia!
