Skopje Closes the Curtain on Nine Spectacular Days of European Dance

The curtain has closed on an unforgettable edition of the IDO European Ballet, Jazz, Modern & Contemporary Championships, after nine extraordinary days that transformed Skopje into a meeting point for European dance.

More than 2,900 dancers from 26 countries came together at SC Boris Trajkovski, bringing with them different cultures, styles and stories — united by the same passion for dance.

From the elegance of Ballet and the energy of Jazz to the emotion, creativity and freedom of Modern and Contemporary Dance, the Skopje stage witnessed performances of exceptional quality. Behind every few minutes under the lights were years of training, dedication and sacrifice, creating moments that will remain long after the results and medals are remembered.

But Skopje 2026 was about more than competition.

An outstanding stage and scenography, professional technical production, carefully organized protocol and competition conditions, together with the work of officials, volunteers and the entire organizing team, created an environment worthy of one of Europe's major dance events.

Under the leadership of organizer Trajce Petkovski, the Championship aimed to create not simply an arena for competition, but an experience — one in which dancers felt celebrated and international guests could discover the culture, history and hospitality of Macedonia.

The concept “Where elegance meets heritage” became more than a campaign message. Throughout the Championship, the elegance of performing arts met the traditions and identity of the host country, while Skopje opened its doors to thousands of dancers, coaches, families, officials and supporters.

One of the defining moments was the spectacular Parade of Nations, when more than 800 dancers filled the competition floor beneath their national flags. It was a powerful reminder that although dancers arrived in Skopje as competitors, they also came together as one international dance community.

There were countless other moments that will remain: the silence before the music started, the emotions after a performance, the celebrations, the embraces, the friendships backstage and the sight of an arena filled with people sharing the same love for dance.

For the organizers and the host city, bringing an event of this scale to Skopje represented both an honor and an enormous responsibility.

“For nine days we watched something we had imagined for so long become real. We wanted to connect the history and heritage of our country with the elegance of the performing arts and give every dancer a stage worthy of their work. Seeing thousands of people experience Skopje, feeling the emotions in the arena and watching the dancers create these unforgettable moments made every challenge worthwhile. This Championship will remain forever in our hearts.”
— Trajce Petkovski, Organizer

As the final lights went down at SC Boris Trajkovski, Skopje said goodbye to its guests — but not to IDO dance.

The European Ballet, Jazz, Modern & Contemporary Championships will continue their journey in Prague in 2027.

And another enormous international dance celebration is already waiting for Skopje: in 2027, the city will welcome the IDO World Championships featuring HipHop, Breaking, All Style and K-pop.

The stage may be quiet now.

But the memories of Skopje 2026 will continue to dance.

Thank you to every dancer, coach, official, volunteer, parent and supporter who became part of this story.

Thank you, Skopje. Thank you, N.Macedonia. Thank you, Europe. ❤️
