Pope Francis Extends Warm Welcome to the Italian Sports Dance Federation

[Vatican City, 20.09.2023] – In a momentous occasion that celebrated the unity of faith and sport, His Holiness Pope Francis graciously received a delegation from the Italian Sports Dance Federation (FIDS) at the Vatican today. The delegation, comprising 160 distinguished individuals, including athletes and staff, was led by the esteemed President of the Regional Committee, Mr. Giovanni Petrilli.

This extraordinary event was marked by a shared commitment to the values of discipline, dedication, and unity that both the Vatican and the FIDS hold dear. The visit was further adorned by the presence of Mr. Edilio Pagano, Vice President of the International Dance Organization , and the renowned international judge, Ms. Maria Elena Mangiacarne.

A touching moment during the audience was the presentation of a precious gift to Pope Francis. The IDO delegation bestowed upon His Holiness a beautifully crafted book recounting the rich history of the IDO. This historical tome will find a place of honor within the Vatican's hallowed halls, where it will be displayed for future generations to admire and appreciate.

The meeting between Pope Francis and the FIDS delegation underscored the importance of sports and culture in fostering connections and shared values across diverse communities. It was a heartfelt and inspirational exchange that emphasized the power of dance, sport, and unity in pursuing of common goals.

President Giovanni Petrilli expressed his gratitude for the warm reception, stating, "We are deeply honored to have had the privilege of meeting His Holiness Pope Francis. This encounter strengthens our commitment to promoting the positive values of sports dance and reaffirms our belief in the unifying power of our art."
