International Dance Community Mourns the Loss of Moreno Polidori, Visionary Founder of the International Dance Organization (IDO)
The global dance community is deeply saddened by the passing of Moreno Polidori, the esteemed founder of the International Dance Organization (IDO), whose visionary leadership and passion profoundly influenced the world of dance.
In the early 1970s, Polidori established Italy's first federation dedicated to disciplines beyond traditional competitive dances, leading to the creation of the FBM – Federation of Modern Dancers. This initiative emerged during the surge of Acrobatic Rock and Roll and Boogie Woogie across Europe.
On September 18, 1981, Polidori, alongside representatives from France, Gibraltar, and Switzerland, founded the IDO in Florence, Italy. He served as the organization's first General Secretary, drafting its original statutes, by-laws, and rules. The IDO aimed to provide continental and world championship competitions for both amateur and professional dancers in various dance forms not covered by existing dance sport councils.
Polidori's commitment to dance extended beyond organizational leadership. He was instrumental in organizing numerous world championships, including those in Rock and Roll Acrobatics, Lambada, and the first Break Dance world championship at the Teatro Verdi in Montecatini, alongside Disco Dance. His dedication ensured that dancers worldwide had platforms to showcase their talents and gain recognition.
Michael Wendt, IDO Lifetime Honorary President, reflected on Polidori's legacy:
"Moreno Polidori, from Florence, Italy, truly was a special and visionary outstanding dance enthusiast. His idea was an international dance organization enabling dancers around the Mediterranean Sea to compete in the wonderful dances which became popular besides Ballroom and Latin American. As far as I know, Moreno Polidori himself was an enthusiastic Boogie Woogie dancer with an open mind and great heart for new dances. He also founded the couple dances: Mixing Blues, Acro Mixing Blues, Hot Blues, and Slow Blues, which have been performed in many countries for many years.
"Without the tireless efforts of Moreno Polidori, there would not have been an IDO at all. IDO is very grateful to the founder and General Secretary for 17 years, Mr. Moreno Polidori, and will keep him in the best memory."
Polidori's passion for dance and his relentless advocacy for dancers have left an indelible mark on the global dance community. Italy and the entire world have lost a monumental figure, a master whose legacy will continue to inspire and shape the future of dance.
