IDO Street Dance Department Holds Annual Department Assembly 2026

The International Dance Organization (IDO) successfully conducted the Annual Department Assembly of the Street Dance Department on 8 May 2026. The meeting was held online via Zoom and brought together representatives from IDO member countries from around the world.

The Assembly was chaired by Kirsten Dan Jensen, IDO Executive Secretary and Treasurer, who also serves as Chairperson of the Street Dance Department.

During the meeting, reports were presented by the chairpersons of all Street Dance committees, providing an overview of the activities and developments during 2025. Presentations were delivered by:

• Carsten Rott – Hip Hop Committee
• Giancarlo Tarabella – Disco Dance, Disco Freestyle and Disco Slow Committee
• Alessandro Farotto – Popping Committee
• Jannie Breiner – Street Dance Show Committee
• Uroš Skulj – Breaking Committee

The reports highlighted the continued development of each discipline and reflected the ongoing efforts to strengthen the Street Dance Department globally.

One of the key agenda items was a proposal submitted by Giancarlo Tarabella regarding Disco Slow. The proposal recommends extending the duration of the final “last presentation” in preliminary, semi-final and final rounds from 30 seconds to one minute. The aim is to give dancers more time to perform and provide adjudicators with additional time for evaluation.

The Annual Department Assembly serves as an important platform for reviewing progress, discussing proposals and ensuring that IDO Street Dance disciplines continue to evolve in line with the needs of dancers, coaches, adjudicators and organizers worldwide.

With disciplines such as Hip Hop, Breaking, Popping, Disco Dance, Street Dance Show and All Style Battles continuing to grow, the Street Dance Department remains one of the most active and innovative sectors within the International Dance Organization.
