IDO Show Dance Committee Holds First Official Meeting of 2026, Setting Key Directions for Future Events

The International Dance Organization (IDO) Show Dance Committee held its official meeting for 2026 on January 28, convening online via Zoom and bringing together 36 delegates and guests from 25 countries across four continents. The meeting marked an important step in shaping the future direction of IDO Show Dance competitions worldwide.

The session was chaired by Seamus Byrne (Gibraltar), Chairperson of the IDO Show Dance Committee, with representatives from Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Americas, as well as members of the IDO Presidium and PA Department in attendance.

Review of 2025 and Outlook for 2026

During the Chairperson’s report, the Committee reviewed the successful Show Dance events held in 2025, including the IDO European Show Dance Championships in Arnas, France, and the IDO World Show Dance Championships in Castellanza, Italy, which together welcomed thousands of dancers from across the globe. Education, competition quality, and the international image of IDO were highlighted as continuing priorities.

The Committee also confirmed the key Show Dance events for 2026:

  • IDO European Show Dance Championships – July 2–5, 2026, Győr, Hungary

  • IDO World Show Dance Championships – December 2–8, 2026, Mikołajki, Poland

Key Discussions and Decisions

A major outcome of the meeting was the unanimous recommendation to improve dancer safety through enhanced flooring standards. The Committee supported the introduction of minimum subfloor requirements beneath Marley floors in certain Performing Arts disciplines, with the understanding that adjusted start fees may help organizers meet these standards.

Further discussions addressed scheduling structures, age divisions, and long-term development strategies aimed at strengthening participation and maintaining high competition standards.

Looking Ahead

The meeting concluded with updates on upcoming IDO activities, including the IDO Gala Final to be held during the World Championships in Mikołajki, and information about future seminars, meetings, and the Annual General Assembly.

The next IDO Show Dance Committee meeting is scheduled to take place in December 2026 in Poland, in conjunction with the IDO World Show Dance Championships.
