IDO Performing Arts Department Successfully Concludes Annual Department Assembly Meeting 2026

The International Dance Organization (IDO) successfully concluded the Performing Arts Annual Department Assembly Meeting, held online on May 18th, 2026, bringing together representatives, officials, and guests from IDO Performing Arts member countries worldwide.

The meeting was led by Hana Svehlova, IDO Vice-President for Dance Sport Rules, Chairperson of the Technical Committee, and Performing Arts Chairperson, who presented the official Performing Arts Department Report and overview of activities, championships, committee work, and future plans for the department.

During the Assembly, reports were presented from all Performing Arts disciplines, including Ballet, Modern & Contemporary, Show Dance, Tap Dance, Jazz Dance, Acrobatic Dance, Performing Arts Improvisation, Flamenco, and Oriental.

The meeting highlighted the strong growth and development of IDO Performing Arts during the 2025 season, which featured highly successful European and World Championships with thousands of dancers participating across multiple continents.

Among the major highlights presented during the report:

  • The World Show Dance, Acrobatic Dance and Performing Arts Improvisation Championships in Castellanza, Italy welcomed 3,300 dancers from 31 countries.
  • The World Tap Dance Championships in Prague, Czech Republic gathered 1,700 dancers from 21 countries and 5 continents.
  • The World Ballet, Jazz and Modern & Contemporary Championships in De Panne, Belgium featured over 3,000 dancers from 31 countries.
  • European Championships in France and Poland also achieved excellent participation numbers and organizational standards.

Important proposals connected to dancer safety and competition conditions were also discussed during the meeting, including additional recommendations regarding Acrobatic Dance safety regulations and improved standards for Marley Floor installations at IDO events.

The Assembly additionally confirmed the continued strength and cooperation of the Performing Arts Committees and Chairpersons, who continue to actively contribute to the development and progress of the department globally.

The upcoming 2026 IDO Performing Arts calendar was also officially presented, featuring major championships in Slovenia, North Macedonia, Czechia, and Poland.

In her closing remarks, Hana Svehlova expressed gratitude to all committee chairpersons, officials, organizers, dancers, choreographers, and member countries for their continued dedication, cooperation, and contribution to the positive growth of IDO Performing Arts worldwide.
