IDO Performing Arts Department Holds 2025 Spring Board Meeting
The International Dance Organization's Performing Arts (PA) Department successfully held its annual spring Board Meeting on April 2, 2025, via Zoom. The meeting brought together committee chairpersons and department members from across the globe to review the previous year, report on ongoing developments, and prepare for the upcoming Performing Arts Annual Department Meeting (ADM).
Presided over by Hana Svehlova, IDO Vice-President and Performing Arts Director, the meeting welcomed new board members Seamus Byrne (IDO Show Dance Chairperson) and Bonnie Dyer (IDO Acrobatic Dance Chairperson), and included representatives from disciplines such as Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Flamenco, and Performing Arts Improvisation.
The Board unanimously approved the 2024 PA Board Meeting minutes and the Performing Arts Director’s report, which highlighted five major IDO championships held in 2024, with strong participation from over 30 countries and all five continents.
Each committee chair presented updates on their discipline. Discussions included the growing interest in Performing Arts Improvisation, the need for larger backstage areas for Modern events, a push to bring lyrical jazz back, and the continued development of Acrobatic Dance. The importance of adequate ceiling height and stage size—especially when events are split between two halls—was emphasized, and a formal proposal on these topics will be sent forward.
Additionally, the Board praised the cooperation with the IDO Dancers Commission and confirmed that the 2025 Performing Arts ADM will be held online on May 7. Key agenda items will include committee reports, proposal voting, and the election of the Department Chairperson.
The meeting concluded with gratitude from the Director for the collaborative spirit and continued dedication of all involved in promoting and improving Performing Arts disciplines globally.
