IDO OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED AS THE INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR DANCE WITHIN THE INTERNATIONAL MUSIC SPORTS COMMITTEE

The International Dance Organization strengthens its international position through official recognition by the International Music Sports Committee (IMSC).

The International Dance Organization (IDO) is proud to announce its official recognition as the International Organization for Dance within the International Music Sports Committee (IMSC).

The recognition represents an important milestone for the IDO and confirms that IDO events, competitions and championships are officially recognized and endorsed by the IMSC as part of the international Music Sports movement.

It also strengthens the institutional cooperation between the two international organizations and opens new opportunities for the development, recognition and promotion of dance and dance sport worldwide.

Strengthening the international position of IDO

Through this recognition, the IMSC acknowledges the International Dance Organization’s role as a global governing body for dance and dance sport and recognizes the international competition structure developed by the IDO.

IDO World and Continental Championships, covering a wide range of dance disciplines, are recognized within the IMSC framework, further strengthening the international position of IDO dancers, coaches, adjudicators and officials.

The recognition provides a foundation for broader cooperation between IDO and IMSC, particularly in areas including education, technical development, safeguarding, ethics, good governance and clean sport.

It also creates opportunities for the two organizations to jointly develop initiatives aimed at supporting dancers and dance professionals at every level – from grassroots participation and education to elite international competition.

A global organization united through dance

Founded in 1981, the International Dance Organization has developed into one of the world’s leading dance organizations, bringing together more than 90 member and contact nations across six continents and supporting a global community of more than 500,000 dancers.

Through its extensive international competition system, IDO provides opportunities for amateur and professional dancers across Performing Arts, Street Dance and Couple Dance disciplines.

IDO World and Continental Championships bring together thousands of dancers every year in disciplines including Ballet, Jazz Dance, Modern & Contemporary Dance, Show Dance, Tap Dance, Hip Hop, Disco Dance, Latin disciplines and many others.

Alongside competition, IDO places strong emphasis on education, professional development, integrity, inclusion, safeguarding and the continuous improvement of standards for dancers, coaches, adjudicators and officials.

Dance within the global Music Sports movement

The International Music Sports Committee is an international, non-governmental and non-profit association established under Swiss law and dedicated to the worldwide development of Music Sports – disciplines where sporting performance, movement, rhythm, music, artistic expression and technical ability come together.

Its activities include international competitions and events, education and training programmes, technical development, research and development projects, as well as initiatives supporting integrity, equality, Fair Play and clean sport.

The official recognition of IDO establishes an important bridge between the international dance community and the wider Music Sports movement.

Looking towards the future

The International Dance Organization welcomes this recognition as another important step in its continued international development.

IDO and IMSC share a commitment to creating an environment in which dance can develop sustainably while respecting the principles of integrity, inclusion, equality, Fair Play and good governance.

Through future cooperation, the organizations will explore opportunities to strengthen education and technical development, promote safeguarding and ethical standards, support athletes and officials, and expand participation in dance around the world.

For the International Dance Organization, the recognition is also an acknowledgement of more than four decades of work by generations of dancers, coaches, adjudicators, officials, organizers and national member organizations who have contributed to building the global IDO community.

Together with its international partners, IDO will continue working to strengthen the position of dance and dance sport worldwide and to create new opportunities for future generations of dancers.
