IDO Modern & Contemporary Dance Committee Meeting 2025

The IDO Modern & Contemporary Dance Committee held its annual meeting, bringing together 29 delegates from 22 countries across four continents. The meeting was led by Chairperson Mitja Popovski, who welcomed everyone and spoke about the growth of modern dance within IDO.

One of the main topics was a review of the 2024 European and World Championships, which took place in Slovenia and Poland. Both events had large numbers of dancers and were held in two halls. Some small issues with backstage space were noted, but overall, both competitions were managed well. A live Modern Dance Forum was also held in Kielce, where important points were discussed.

Discussions on Modern Dance Today
A big part of the meeting focused on the current state of modern dance. Delegates shared different opinions on whether modern dance is moving in the right direction. Some felt that there are too many tricks and acrobatics, while others said that dance needs to keep up with the times.
The overall message was to keep modern dance evolving while remembering its roots.

Upcoming Events in 2025
The committee confirmed the two major modern dance competitions for 2025:
📍 European Modern Championships – Grodzisk, Poland (June 15-18, 2025)
📍 World Modern Championships – De Panne, Belgium (Nov 30 - Dec 4, 2025)

Delegates also got updates on the new venues and possible accommodation options for these events.

Other Meeting Points
✅ The committee approved the Minutes from 2024 with no objections.
✅ Elections for all IDO Committee Chairpersons will take place in 2026.
✅ Delegates were asked to review the new format of competition rules for possible changes in the future.

Chairperson Mitja Popovski thanked all the delegates for their time and valuable input.
