IDO Jazz Dance Committee Welcomes New Chairperson — Breanna Willis
The IDO is pleased to announce that Breanna Willis, from Canada, has been elected as the new Chairperson of the IDO Jazz Dance Committee. The election took place during the Committee’s recent vote, in which delegates selected between two highly respected candidates: Breanna Willis and Marko Behal (Sweden).
Breanna Willis brings to the role more than four decades of experience in dance and performing arts, combining professional training with a versatile career in theatre, film, television, and stage productions. Her résumé includes performances on “Canada’s Got Talent,” multiple television series, opera and theatre productions, and a solid background in ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, musical theatre and more. Her rich experience as a performer, teacher and choreographer makes her ideally suited to lead the Jazz Dance Committee into a future of growth and excellence.
Outgoing Chairperson Mimi Marcac Mirceta expressed her deep gratitude to all 19 committee delegates for their trust and support over the past 12 years of her leadership. She emphasized that the decision reflects both the strength of the candidates and the commitment of the delegates to uphold the highest standards for jazz dance within IDO.
Mimi Marcac Mirceta stated:
“I thank all 19 delegates for entrusting me these last 12 years. It has been an honour to guide the Jazz Dance Committee. I am confident that under Breanna Willis’s chairmanship, the committee will reach new heights.”
The election process was carried out with full transparency and respect for IDO’s democratic principles. Both candidates — Breanna Willis and Marko Behal — are well-known figures within the IDO community, each bringing unique strengths, yet the delegate vote demonstrated a clear preference for Willis’s vision for future development.
With this leadership transition, the IDO Jazz Dance Committee reaffirms its commitment to nurturing jazz dance globally, supporting dancers, choreographers and national federations, and ensuring that jazz remains a vibrant, evolving discipline within the IDO family.
