IDO Jazz Dance Committee Holds Online Meeting
The International Dance Organization (IDO) Jazz Dance Committee held an online meeting with 27 delegates representing 20 countries across three continents. Chaired by Mimi Marcac Mirceta from Slovenia, the meeting covered essential topics, including competition updates, rule developments, and upcoming elections.
Key Highlights of the Meeting:
Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes: The 2024 committee meeting minutes were reviewed and unanimously approved, with no objections or comments.
Chairperson’s Report: Mimi Marcac Mirceta provided an overview of the 2024 IDO Jazz Dance competitions, highlighting successful events, including:
European Championships in Podčetrtek, Slovenia (September 26-29, 2024) – Hosted 1,401 dancers across various jazz styles.
World Championships in Kielce, Poland (December 1-4, 2024) – Saw increased participation with 1,484 dancers competing, including a rise in the Adult 2 category.
Discussion Topics:
Lyrical Jazz: Concerns were raised about the limited presence of lyrical jazz pieces in competitions, with discussions on distinguishing it from modern dance.
Stage Size for Adult Divisions: A recommendation was made to ensure all adult categories perform on the larger stage when multiple halls are used.
Event Scheduling and Logistics: Delegates shared experiences on optimizing competition schedules for both dancers and organizers. The balance between venue capacity and audience viewing options was also addressed.
Collaboration on IDO PA Event Schedules: Delegates were encouraged to provide input and suggestions for improved planning and coordination.
Future Elections: The committee was informed that elections for all IDO Committee Chairpersons will take place in 2026 as part of the standard four-year term cycle.

European Jazz Championships – Grodzisk, Poland (June 11-14, 2025)
World Jazz Championships – De Panne, Belgium (November 26-29, 2025)
Both venues were discussed, with positive feedback on their facilities and competition arrangements.
The IDO Dancers Commission introduced Mika Einmal from Germany, who shared insights into topics of interest for dancers and trainers in IDO forums.
