IDO Ballet Committee Discusses Future Developments and 2025 Competitions

The International Dance Organization (IDO) Ballet Committee held its latest meeting with 18 delegates from 13 countries across three continents, focusing on the growth and future direction of ballet within IDO competitions.

Key Discussions and Decisions:

Chairperson Tina D’Artnall welcomed the delegates, acknowledging the challenges faced in recent years and emphasizing the committee’s progress in strengthening ballet within IDO. She highlighted the well-attended 2024 events and addressed ongoing travel difficulties, including costs and documentation requirements.

Review of 2024 Ballet Events: Reports on the European Championships in Podčetrtek, Slovenia, and the World Championships in Kielce, Poland, reflected significant improvement in ballet standards, a more refined repertoire, and overall well-organized events. Discussions highlighted the importance of maintaining classical ballet integrity, refining judging criteria, and ensuring a balance between creativity and technical precision.

Upcoming Competitions in 2025:

European Ballet Championships – Grodzisk, Poland (June 11-14, 2025)

World Ballet Championships – De Panne, Belgium (November 28-29, 2025)

African Ballet Championships – Sun City, South Africa (June 29-July 3, 2025)

Elections:

Tina D’Artnall was re-elected as the IDO Ballet Committee Chairperson following unanimous support from all voting countries. She expressed gratitude for the continued trust and commitment of the committee members.

New Business:

The committee announced an upcoming online educational seminar on April 3, featuring Svebor Secak on the importance of respecting ballet repertoire. Discussions also included potential expansions in repertoire categories for duets, groups, and formations.
