IDO AND ALMA MATER EUROPAEA OPEN APPLICATIONS FOR THE CERTIFIED IDO DANCE COACH MICRO-CREDENTIAL
From Experience to Professional Expertise
The International Dance Organization (IDO), in collaboration with Alma Mater Europaea – Dance Academy, is proud to announce the opening of applications for the Certified IDO Dance Coach Micro-Credential, an accredited educational programme created for experienced dancers and dance professionals from across the international dance community.
The programme represents an important opportunity to connect practical dance experience with academic knowledge and contemporary professional coaching competencies, offering participants a new pathway to strengthen their expertise and advance their professional careers.
The first generation of participants will begin the programme in January 2027, with applications open until 15 November 2026.
From Dance Experience to Professional Expertise
Years spent training, performing, competing, teaching and creating represent an extraordinary foundation of knowledge and experience. The Certified IDO Dance Coach Micro-Credential has been developed to build upon that foundation through structured academic education.
Contemporary dance coaching goes far beyond teaching technique and choreography. A professional coach must understand dancers as both athletes and performers while possessing knowledge of physical preparation, anatomy, injury prevention, nutrition, psychology, communication, teaching methodology, group dynamics, professional ethics and performance analysis.
The new programme brings these areas together within an international educational environment specifically connected to the realities of the dance world.
Eight Modules for the Contemporary Dance Coach
The programme consists of eight modules covering key areas of contemporary dance coaching, including the IDO system, rules, judging and professional ethics; anatomy and functional physical preparation; injury prevention and sports nutrition; dance teaching methodology and didactics; communication and sport psychology; group dynamics and psychological preparation; working with dancers of different ages and experience levels; and practical approaches to coaching, observation, analysis and reflection.
Participants will have the opportunity to connect academic knowledge with their existing practical experience and develop competencies that can be applied directly to their work with dancers.
Three Specialisations
Recognising the diversity of the international IDO dance community, participants can specialise in one of three areas:
Performing Arts Dance
Street Dance
Couple Dance
The programme also addresses choreography, music, dance history, interpretation, performance and stage presence, together with their connection to judging criteria.
This structure allows participants to develop broader professional coaching competencies while remaining connected to their own dance background and area of expertise.
Accredited, International and 100% Online
The Certified IDO Dance Coach Micro-Credential is designed to be accessible to dance professionals around the world.
The programme will be delivered 100% online and in English, creating an international learning environment without requiring participants to interrupt their professional, teaching or competitive activities.
All lectures and learning activities will be delivered by international experts and recognised professionals from dance, sport, education and related fields.
Most live sessions will take place at weekends, while all live sessions will also be recorded for participants who are unable to attend in real time.
The programme will last approximately three to four months and awards 9 ECTS credits upon successful completion.
The estimated programme fee is approximately €1,500.
Successful participants will earn the Certified IDO Dance Coach Micro-Credential.
Who Can Apply?
The programme is intended for dancers, dance educators and teachers, dance coaches, choreographers, sports professionals, students of dance or sports studies, and other candidates with relevant dance experience.
Applicants must have completed at least a four-year upper-secondary education programme corresponding to EQF Level 4, or hold an equivalent qualification obtained abroad.
Candidates are required to provide the relevant supporting documentation, including proof of their educational qualification and a dance portfolio or CV presenting their dance experience, education and teaching experience.
Application Procedure
Applications must be submitted through the candidate's IDO National Member Organization (NMO).
Each candidate should provide their National Member Organization with:
- A completed application form
- Proof of completion of a four-year upper-secondary education programme or equivalent qualification
- A dance portfolio or CV outlining dance experience, education and teaching experience
The National Member Organization will collect the required documentation and submit the complete application to Alma Mater Europaea – Dance Academy.
