Highlights from the IDO Couple Dance Department Committee Meeting
The International Dance Organization Couple Dance Department recently held its committee meeting to review ongoing developments and future initiatives across disciplines.
Director’s Report
IDO Couple Dance Director Klaus Höllbacher thanked the organizers of the 2024 World Championship in Skopje, North Macedonia—Trajce Petkovski & Ilija Karadakoski for a well-executed event. He also acknowledged the team behind the upcoming 2025 World Championship in Poland, led by Zbigniew Zasada. Participation levels have stabilized, with increases in several disciplines. Höllbacher also expressed appreciation to countries actively supporting the department and highlighted the re-election and appointment of all department directors.
Key Discussions & Outcomes
Rules: The current rulebook is considered concise and trainer-friendly. No further shortening is planned to avoid confusion.
Costume Regulations: A working group will propose updates by age group, with stricter rules for Children and more flexibility for Adults in line with international standards.
Age Groups: Proposals include splitting Children into two categories and adding Youth, Under 21, and Adult 3. A working group will prepare a proposal for discussion in May.
Latin Style Awards: A working group will seek ways to streamline award ceremonies, responding to the growing number of dancers and categories.
New Rules: Final rounds in Discofox/DiscoSwing will now allow props. Further discussion is underway regarding props in other dance styles.
Looking Ahead
The IDO Couple Dance Annual Department Meeting (ADM) is set for May 6, 2025, at 14:00 CET.
Dancer and trainer forums, as well as autumn committee meetings, will be held during the World Championship in Poland.
A proposal has been made for a World Cup in Argentine Tango in Spain, with the potential for future official championships.
The IDO Couple Dance Department continues to support growth, innovation, and high-quality competition within all couple dance disciplines.
