Goodbye, Moreno – The IDO Family Will Always Remember You
The International Dance Organization (IDO) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of its esteemed founder, Moreno Polidori. His vision and dedication laid the foundation for IDO and shaped the modern dance landscape worldwide.
IDO President Prof. Dr. Velibor Srdic shared his heartfelt tribute:
"Mr. Moreno Polidori, one of the most significant people in IDO history, has gone to a better place. He was such a frequently mentioned figure, about whom we younger ones have heard so much. Undoubtedly, Polidori's contribution helped position IDO as one of the most important projects in modern dance history during a certain period of time.
It is certain that Mr. Polidori never imagined where IDO would be today. One of the first IDO disciplines—Show Dance, Disco Dance, and Breaking—still live on and are more attractive than ever. Our rules and system of operation are still essentially unique, and we are happy about that.
With great joy and tears of happiness, he received the award from IDO Vice President Mr. Edilio Pagano on the occasion of 40 years of IDO. All of us who have continued to enrich the rich IDO history, supported by the invaluable legacy of Mr. Polidori and his followers, promise that we will never forget them. On the contrary, we will proudly remember them and build new generations in IDO based on their idea.
As we have witnessed countless times, the transience of life is an inevitable thing. We have lost many good and irreplaceable people, and we will continue to lose them. What remains are our deeds, our energy, and our friends. May dance be eternal and may it bring us together in our IDO home.
Rest in peace, Moreno Polidori!"
Who Was Moreno Polidori?
Moreno Polidori was a pioneer in the dance world, dedicating his life to expanding and formalizing dance competitions beyond traditional styles. In 1981, he co-founded the International Dance Organization (IDO) alongside representatives from France, Switzerland, and Gibraltar. As IDO’s first General Secretary, he played a crucial role in drafting the organization's statutes and competition rules, enabling IDO to grow into the global governing body it is today.
Polidori’s influence extended beyond IDO. He was instrumental in developing and organizing major international dance competitions, including the first Break Dance World Championship at the Teatro Verdi in Montecatini, as well as championships in Rock and Roll Acrobatics, Disco Dance, and Lambada. In 1985, he established the Italian Sports Dance Confederation (CIBS) to further unite dance disciplines not yet represented on the global stage.
His vision, leadership, and commitment to dance have left an enduring legacy. Today, IDO stands as a testament to his work, uniting dancers from around the world and giving them a platform to showcase their talents.
The IDO community mourns this great loss but remains committed to carrying forward his legacy, ensuring that his passion for dance continues to inspire generations to come.
