Fantastic Opening Day at the IDO European Championships in Skopje

The IDO European Ballet, Jazz, Modern & Contemporary Championships 2026 officially opened in spectacular fashion at SC Boris Trajkovski in Skopje, marking the beginning of nine days of world-class dance.

The first day placed Ballet in the spotlight, with the opening categories bringing elegance, technical excellence and artistry to an impressive championship stage created to provide outstanding conditions for Europe’s dancers.

From the professional competition floor and lighting to the overall production and atmosphere inside the arena, Skopje welcomed the participating delegations with conditions worthy of a major European championship.

The championship is overseen by IDO Supervisor Bonnie Dyer, with Hana Švehlová and Jannie Breiner Jensen serving as Chairpersons and Michal Gawron as Scrutineer.

Organizer Trajce Petkovski and the Skopje 2026 team welcomed the dancers, coaches, officials and national delegations to Macedonia for what promises to be an extraordinary celebration of dance.

“After months of preparation, seeing the dancers finally step onto this stage is a very special moment. Our goal was to create an environment where Europe’s best dancers can perform at their highest level and feel truly welcomed in Skopje. Day One was only the beginning — we have eight more incredible days ahead of us,” said organizer Trajce Petkovski.

The opening day was also captured through an official photo gallery by Photo Studio Still, documenting the performances, emotions and atmosphere of the first day in Skopje.

With Ballet opening the programme, the championship will continue to bring together Ballet, Jazz, Modern and Contemporary Dance, showcasing the diversity and artistic quality of the IDO dance community.

One fantastic day completed. Eight more days of world-class dance to come.
