Cyprus Welcomes a New Chapter with COPAA and the National Selection Competition PRO DANCE
The International Dance Organization (IDO) is proud to announce the successful completion of Cyprus’s national selection competition, organized by the country’s new IDO member, COPAA (Cyprus Organization of Performing Arts Athletes). The IDO-licensed event PRO DANCE took place from May 2 to May 4, 2025, in Larnaca.
With over 15 dance schools participating from across Cyprus, the event featured a dynamic and diverse lineup of dance disciplines including Hip-hop, Hip-hop Battles, Modern, Lyrical Jazz, Show Dance, Acrobatic Dance, Street Dance Show, Disco Dance, Jazz, and more.
PRO DANCE served as the official qualifying competition for several prestigious international events, including the IDO European Street Dance Championships in Sweden, the IDO World Championships in Ljubljana, and the World Performing Arts Championships in Italy and Belgium.
Ahead of the competition, a national adjudicator examination was held to license new national judges. These individuals were formally recognized during a celebratory Gala evening, where IDO Senior Vice President Fiona Johnson personally presented the diplomas.
Reflecting on the event, Johnson shared:
“I was positively surprised by the level of dancers since my last visit to an IDO-licensed event in Cyprus. It’s inspiring to see the development in dance and the dedication of those helping young dancers, especially the little girl who dreams of dancing. My sincere compliments go to President Anastasija Kakogianni and the Board of Directors for their outstanding work. To all the newly licensed national adjudicators I wish continued success in their dance endeavours!”
This event marks a significant step forward for Cyprus in the international dance community, highlighting both the talent of its performers and the commitment of its new national organization, COPAA.
