The partners of the PPR project, co-funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ Sport programme, gathered in Istanbul for their final in-person meeting. IDO was represented by Fiona Johson, Senior Vice-President and Patrik Perosa, Advisor to the President.

As the project nears its conclusion, all signs indicate that it has been a great success. It significantly enhanced practical understanding of the power and relevance of public relations, especially in the field of sport and within sports clubs.

During the meeting, partners looked back on the work completed so far and analysed the key challenges sports organisations face when communication takes centre stage. They also discussed the findings of the project’s fieldwork, which confirmed substantial progress in building communication capacities and developing more strategic approaches in clubs and federations. At the same time, the results highlighted areas that still need attention — particularly media relations and impact assessment.

Another major focus of the meeting was the project’s final output — the Handbook for Sports Administrators. This practical guide equips sports organisations with concrete tools and knowledge for designing and managing communication strategies, strengthening reputation, engaging stakeholders, and attracting sponsors. It provides step-by-step guidance on strategic communication, crisis management, branding, sponsorship activation, digital PR, and media relations.

The project has opened new perspectives and created a solid foundation for future initiatives aimed at further improving communication practices in sport and reinforcing the importance of public relations across the sector.
