Question from IDO-Japan - Kazuyo Kaminaga

Acrobatic Movements are not allowed in Jazz Dance

Dear IDO,
We had a qualification contest for IDO World Championships in Frankfurt in Japan last Sunday and now I am preparing for entry.

IDO Japan has a question:

For Jazz Dance category, rules & regulations provide that  Acrobatic Movements are not allowed in Jazz Dance (Acrobatics are defined under General Provisions in
c). Lifts, jumps, splits etc., are allowed.

Acrobatic Movements is defined as
Acrobatics are those movements, in which body overturns round sagital or frontal axis, such as somersaults, hand wheeling and similar figures.
This means no "side flip" or "aerial" is permitted in Jazz Dance category. Am I right?
We would appreciate it if you could give me a correct interpretation.

Thank you and best regards,

Kazuyo Kaminaga, IDO-Japan contact

Answer from Bill Fowler, IDO Chairman of the Performing Arts Department (Mr. IDO Rule Book):

Dear Kazuyo Kaminga,

The rules regarding Acrobatic movements are below. They are not allowed in Jazz Dance or Ballet Dance but they are allowed in Modern.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

With kind regards,

Bill Fowler
Performing Arts Director
Honorary Lifetime President

ACROBATIC MOVEMENTS:
Acrobatics are those movements, in which body overturns round sagital or frontal axis, such as somersaults, hand wheeling and similar figures.
These movements are permitted in some, but not all disciplines. Please refer to specific rules for the discipline in question.
If permitted, acrobatic movements will not always enhance the dancer’s score, and could even detract from the score if they are not performed in a technically correct manner.
