A question about age group mini kids

My son will be aged 7 at the next European competition and is keen to try to qualify for mini kids again.
His DOB is 28th November 2009 , therefore he will turn 8 just before the end of 2016, but will still be 7 at the date of the competition.

From reading the rules , he will be 7 at the competition to be eligible to dance, but we have heard that you are not allowed to turn 8 in the same year?

Dear Mark,

The rule states that a dancers age is determined by the year he was born. In 2016 he will be 8 year’s of age from January 1, 2016, until December 31, 2016. This rule is defined on page 24 of the Rules Book, under the heading DETERMINING ONE’S AGE DIVISION. www.ido-dance.com

Since he will be 8 in the year 2016, he will not be able to compete in the Mini Kids event.

If he competes he will have to enter the children’s division which is age 11 and under.
